Computer doesn't recognize new ESP32 even after installing drivers

just got the sunfounder starter kit for ESP32 .

plugged module into breadboard and

plugged in power cable. got a red

led on the board came on but computer

did not recognize the board and

download drivers. so downloaded the

drivers manually. that was successful

but Windows still did not recognize

the board. Arduino IDE did not

recognize the board either. Windows

Device manager only shows COM1 and

COM2. don’t know what to do now.

Have you tried manual selection? It may not be 1 or 2

did all as suggested. only 2 ports, COM1 and COM2 available. chose COM2 and tried downloading and running hello_led.ino but it failed uploading, exit status 2.
will try again but selecting COM1

attached are the resulting error messages from trying each of the two ports available.

(Attachment error downloading hi_led.txt is missing)

There is no attachment.

A quick left field question. Is your usb cable both charge and data? A charge only cable could explain your symptoms.

replaced my usb cable with the one that came in the kit. didn’t help.

Please send us a photo of your wiring diagram, and also copy the error message from the Arduino IDE and send it to us.
