Pironman 5 case fans start on boot, then wont run

I’ve read through a variety of the posts here about issues with the LCD and power button and fans, I may have missed one more specific to my issue.

When I boot the unit, the RGB fans run and light up. Once the unit fully boots up, and as soon as the LCD screen comes on (which I had to set to always on in the config), the fans shut off. I’ve attempted to force the fans to always on from the CLI, nothing happens.

Adding some screens from the i2c detect, I will also follow up with a comment for the logs. I have a video, but its simply the device booting, the RGB fans working, and once the LCD turns on the fans stop and wont power on with temp, nor can I force them to always be on with the CLI.

Thanks!

I’ve also tried the suggested sudo rpi-update to update the firmware, still no impact.

Could you provide us with a video of the issue? This will help us analyze and resolve the problem.

After you execute the command sudo pironman5 -gm 0, you need to restart the software service by executing the command to apply the changes.

So, the correct commands are:

sudo pironman5 -gm 0
sudo systemctl restart pironman5.service

Then check if the RGB fan works normally.

If it doesn’t work, please check if the GPIO6 (FAN) pin on the IO expansion board is connected with a jumper.

If the IO expansion board is correctly connected with a jumper and the RGB fan still doesn’t work, we recommend disconnecting the RGB fan from the IO expansion board and connecting it directly to the GPIO pins (5V and GND) on the PI5, then powering the PI5 to see if the RGB fan works normally.

Video Attached.

Confirmed that I executed the commands as noted in your response.

Confirmed that the jumper is in place.

Once I connected the fan (I tested one) to the Pi5 directly on the GPIO pins, the RGB works perfectly.

grumble Too many machines being built on my desk at once.. I never ran the apt-get update/upgrade for the OS.. I just did it and it rebooted and everything is good. Thanks!

Well, Maybe not.. Just rebooted again and now they don’t work again.. now I am perplexed..

Have you updated the kernel? sudo rpi-update and reboot.

There may be an issue with the IO expansion board.

Please contact service@sunfounder.com, and we will send you a replacement IO expansion board to see if that resolves the issue.

Please ensure the following:

You are using the official power supply or a third-party 5V 5A power supply to power the case.
Confirm that all pin connections on the IO expansion board are correct, and that the jumper connections are correct.
Install the correct PiRonMan5 software.

Thank you, I will contact service. I can confirm I am using an official power supply (just bought a new one, just in case there was an issue with mine) and I confirmed the jumper and pins are all properly set (I basically tore down the build to re-confirm everything).

Yep, done that. Thanks!
