Pironman 5 not Booting from NVMe

I have just received and assembled a Pironman 5 module.

Whenever I try to get the Pi to boot from the NVMe, it can’t find it with a “failed to open device: nvme” error. It’s only able to boot via SD card.

I updated the eeprom, changed the boot order to prioritize the NVMe, and the FPC is about as secure as I imagine I’m able to get. I have dug through forums and websites trying to troubleshoot this with no luck.

The PIP board receives power with the PWR light being solid green but no other lights are active.

I have a WD SN740. It has Raspberry Pi OS 64-bit imaged to it. It is in the list of compatible SSDs.

It is recommended that you first boot from the SD card and then execute the command:
sudo rpi-eeprom-config --edit
Configure the boot order to prioritize booting from the SSD. Copy OS from Micro SD to NVMe SSD — SunFounder Pironman 5 documentation
Change the BOOT_ORDER line to the following:

BOOT_ORDER=0xf416

Explanation:
6: First, try NVMe SSD
1: Then, try SD card
4: Finally, try USB
If your current configuration has the BOOT_ORDER line as:
BOOT_ORDER=0xf41

It might not attempt to recognize the booting system from the SSD. Once the configuration file is set, reboot the Pironman 5 for the changes to take effect. If the SSD is still not recognized:

1.Please check if the FPC wiring is secure.
2.Connect the SSD, start the Pironman 5, and observe the status LED (STA) and power LED (PWR) on the adapter. If the status LED is not blinking, please confirm that the wiring direction of the FPC cable is correct. You can watch our assembly video here: Assembly Video.
3.If the FPC wiring is correct and the power LED is solid while the status LED is not blinking normally, please short the force en (J4) on the SSD adapter and start the Pironman 5 to see if the SSD can be forced to be recognized (as shown in the image).
4.We recommend providing a video of the issue. If the video file is large, please upload it to OneDrive and share the link with us, granting us access.

Here is a link to the folder with the according pictures and videos to show you what is going on. I’ve tried everything except shorting the PIP.

Let me know if I can change anything.

We will send you a PIP module and the FPC cable.Please contact us at service@sunfounder.com

Hi, the new PIP module also does not seem to be working. I get a solid green power light and no status light. I’ve also replaced and reseated the FPC multiple times.

At this point I’m beginning to think the SSD I have isn’t compatible and will need a different one.

I’m sorry for the inconvenience, I’ll have the after-sales team contact you.
