Picked up a pironman5 and have run into a problem. My raspberry pi no longer sees my NVMe drive. I previously was using the pi with a different nvme kit, so I know the drive itself is compatible with the raspberry pi. I’ve tried reseating the cable a dozen times no luck. On rare occasion, on a boot attempt I’ll see nvme errors in dmesg but usually nothing - but every time I have a solid green power led on the PIP board.
The NVMe is a 1TB Western Digital WD Blue SN580 NVMe.
Please check whether the FPC wiring is secure. Replace the spare FPC cable.
Connect the SSD, boot up the pironman5 and observe the status LED (STA) and power LED (PWR) of the adapter;
If the power LED is always green and the status LED is not blinking, please make sure the FPC cable is wired in the right direction yet.

What system is installed in your SSD?
We also recommend you to record the process video to us, so that we can analyze and solve the problem. (Mainly watch the working status of SSD adapter’s indicator light when pironman5 is booting)
I swapped back out to my old nvme board and ribbon cable and it came up fine so its something with the pironman cable. I dont think the cable is bad (I’ve tried both). I must not be getting it seated quite right. I’ll keep playing with it and double check the cable alignment again. I also ordered a cable off amazon that I’m hoping is more sturdy. Yours like to bend easier than I like considering the minimal headroom I have to get to them.
Have you ever figured this out? I am running into the same problem Rasp Pi5 latest bootloader cables perfect. No NVME detected using ADATA Legend 800 (compatible according to compatibility list) Not sure what im doing wrong?
1.Please check if the FPC connections are secure. Try replacing the FPC cable to see if it improves functionality.
2.Connect the SSD, start Pironman5, and observe the status LED (STA) and power LED (PWR) indicators. If the status LED is not blinking, please confirm the connection direction of the FPC cable.
You can watch our assembly video here: https://youtu.be/tCKTgAeWIjc
2.If the FPC connections are correct but the power LED is off and the status LED is not blinking normally, please short the metal at the force en (J4) on the SSD adapter and restart Pironman5 to see if it can recognize the SSD forcibly (as shown in the image).
A new third party FPC cable finally arrived. Its not working either. I get NO lights on the PIP with it. With both of the FPCs that came with the pironman, I do get a green power light on the FPC but that’s it.
When the pi tries to boot I get the following message:
Boot mode: NVME (06) order f14
PCIe timeout: 0x001e08f
Failed to open device: ‘nvme’
PCIe timeout: 0x001e08f
We cannot guarantee whether the third-party FPC cable is compatible with our PIP.
Didn’t you previously say that the PIP works properly with the FPC cables we provided?
What situation are you currently facing?
No it’s never worked with yours either. Per my comment above, I get a green light on the pip but no activity light and the nvme is never seen by the pi during boot.
the new module didnt correct the issue. It appears my drive is not compatible with the PIP module. I swapped it out with a different Nvme and it works fine now. I appreciate the assistance. Note: the drive works with the rpi5 with other nvme add-ons, so the drive itself is good. I would recommend updating your compatibility chart and removing the WD Blue SN580 or add a mileage my vary caveat. Even with the updated rpi firmware, it wont read for me. I can confirm that the Crucial P3 also on your list works flawlessly. Super cool product and I’m thrilled to finally be using it!
yes, as stated both immediately above and in the original post for the thread where I listed that I was already using a newer bootloader than the one referenced in the alert.
I, too, am having the same issue. At boot up, the PWR lights solid. The STA light flickers a little during boot up. The ribbon cable is connected properly. My SSD is a Crucial P3 plus.
I’m running Raspberry Pi OS from the SD card. But, I cannot see the SSD in the file manager.
Yes, I did this. It still doesn’t show up in File Manager. But, it seem to be seen by the Pironman5 dashboard in Storage area as “nvme0n1 0%”. Without actually installing the OS from SD to the NVME, something with 1000 GB shows up as the target (SD is only 32 GB), but that doesn’t match the M.2 installed on the PIP. Im assuming the SSD needs to be formatted but I cant figure that out.
