The ‘Required Components’ section shows a 1kΩ resistor but the ‘Schematic Diagram’ and the ‘Wiring Example’ both show using a 10kΩ resistor. Which should it be?
But more importantly… I could not get this to work as wired in the ‘Wiring Example.’
I noticed that the ‘Schematic Design’ had GPIO17 connected to the same tilt switch lead as power (and the pull-up resistor) whereas the ‘Wiring Example’ shows GPIO17 connected to the tilt switch lead that is going to ground. I switched GPIO17 over to the other switch lead and it worked, which… makes sense, yes?
Thanks for the feedback, and for testing the wiring yourself.
Resistor: you’re right — the components list has a typo. It should be 10kΩ. The 10kΩ shown in the schematic and wiring diagram is correct. We’ll fix the list soon, so please just build with 10kΩ.
Wiring: we checked the schematic and the wiring diagram, and in both GPIO17 is connected to the side with the pull-up resistor (the power side). The diagram itself is correct. Could you double-check whether you had GPIO17 connected to the GND side instead? If it’s on the GND side, the pin floats when the switch is open, so the reading becomes unstable or reversed — which matches what you saw. And the fact that it worked after you moved it to the other side confirms the original diagram is right.
If you can, send us a screenshot of the schematic/wiring diagram you were looking at, so we can check whether your copy matches the official one.
If you need to send photos or videos, please upload them to Google Drive (or another cloud drive), set sharing to “Anyone with the link can view”, and send us the link — otherwise we can’t open it.
I have absolutely no idea what I was seeing. I swear I checked MULTIPLE times last night and it really looked like the blue jumper wire was on the lead that went to ground. Looking today it is clearly NOT. Weird. Brain glitch!
Thanks also for reading this lesson so carefully and testing the wiring yourself — your feedback really helps us. If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out anytime.
