Raphael Kit Lesson 2.1.6 for Raspberry Pi (Rotary Encoder Module)

A couple of things

  1. 3.3V or 5V?

The Schematic Diagram does not specify. The Wiring Example shows it going to 3.3V BUT the text directly under the wiring example says to connect [+] to 5V.

If you edit the wiring example, consider changing the jumper wires to F-M (and in the ‘Required Components’ graphic as well).

  1. GPIO pins for Schematic Diagram do not match Wiring Example/Code

Schematic Diagram:
CLK to GPIO27
DT to GPIO18
SW to GPIO17

Wiring Example shows (and the code reflects)
CLK going to GPIO17
DT to GPIO18
SW to GPIO27

Thank you very much for reading the Raphael Kit tutorial so carefully and for taking the time to write up the inconsistencies you found in Lesson 2.1.6 (Rotary Encoder Module) regarding the supply voltage and the GPIO pin assignments. Feedback like this is genuinely helpful for improving our documentation, and we really appreciate it.

Here is what we found after verifying each of your points:

Supply voltage (3.3V or 5V): The [+] pin of the rotary encoder module should be connected to 3.3V. You were right that the wiring example and the text below it disagreed — we have verified and corrected this, and the text now reads 3.3V, consistent with the wiring example.

GPIO pin assignments differing between the schematic diagram and the wiring example/code: After checking, the schematic diagram was indeed incorrect. The correct wiring is CLK to GPIO17, DT to GPIO18, and SW to GPIO27, and the documentation has been corrected accordingly. Thank you for spotting this so keenly.

Your suggestion to change the wiring example to F-M jumper wires and to update the “Required Components” illustration: Thank you for the suggestion. We will leave this as is for now, since that section is only meant to indicate that jumper wires are needed in general — the specific type depends on the actual wiring situation, so we prefer to keep the description generic.

Thank you again for your patience and for pointing these out. If you have any further questions or spot anything else while using the kit, please feel free to reach out to us at any time.
