Galaxy RVR Disconnects Quickly in STA mode, AP Mode Does not work at all

Bought a Galaxy RVR from amazon and been having a lot of trouble with it. The AP mode does not work at all. On an Android phone it tries to connect and fails. On an Iphone is says the “1234568” password is incorrect, I change the password in the code and it still says it is incorrect when I try the new one.

In STA mode it will connect via the app for anywhere between 10 to 60 seconds on Android or Iphone then randomly disconnects. The ESP 32 Firmware is at 1.4.0, but I can only see it if I connect to 192.168.4.146, not the .1 it says in the literature.

I try to update the firmware to 1.4.1 from my PC and it gets stuck at 9%, I try to update it from my phone and it says “Success”, but I reset the Galaxy RVR and reconnect to the IP and it still says 1.4.0.

The only post I can find that has this same issue is here: GalaxyRVR continuously disconnecting from app. Pretty much unusable - #26 by SunFounder_Moderator and the only fix was getting a new ESP32 board. He says that it is at 1.4.0 and works fine, he tries to upgrade it to 1.4.1 and the issue continues. He downgrades it to 1.4.0 and it starts working again. However, I’m at 1.4.0 and can’t even upgrade to 1.4.1.

Any thoughts on what I can do?

Thank you for responding, followed the tutorial and the same process happens. It shows a successful update, but after a reset the device shows 1.4.0 so it did not take the update.

This does suck, but I found a solution. I disconnected the camera on the ESP32 board and the rover now works fine, just with no camera. For our science experiment we do not need the camera so it works, just wish the complete rover worked as advertised.

After updating the firmware, please restart your Mars Rover for the changes to take effect. We recommend updating the ESP32-CAM firmware to version 1.4.2, then re-upload the galaxy-rvr.ino sketch and try connecting again.
