Issue after installing LCD screen driver with Pironman 5 Max

I attempted to install the LCD screen driver from the tutorial after removing the RGB jumper and disabling it in the config. Once the LCD screen driver restart happened, I am not prompted for a login. I put my credentials in and get an error message that says “Failed to start session”. Also the LCD screen is not, it is only showing on the HDMI display. All of the hardware is brand new and with the exception of the display screen was working fine until I attempted to connect the display screen and install the driver for it.

Two questions,

1. Can I roll back the LCD install to get me back to a working PI?

2. Any Ideas why I am getting prompted for a login after installing the display screen driver when I was not being prompted for a login before?

To better assist you in troubleshooting, please provide a video or photos of the issue so we can analyze and resolve it effectively.

Regarding display connections:
If you wish to use the LCD, please ensure the HDMI display is not connected simultaneously. The system will default to the HDMI output, causing the LCD to remain blank.

Driver Installation Login Prompt:
Normally, no login prompt should appear after installing the display driver. Could you please:

Share a video/screenshot of the issue.

Confirm that you followed the correct driver installation steps?

We’re happy to help once we have more details!

Here is the video. The touch screen is not functional. Had to use keyboard and mouse .
Also I followed the instructions in the tutorial for installing the display driver and am presented with the log on prompt after installing the display driver and restarting the PI

What system are you currently using?

The password you need to enter in your video should be the password for your system, which is the username and password you configured yourself.

It’s the username and password you set up when installing the system. If entering the correct password still does not allow you to log in to the desktop, we recommend reinstalling the system.

The system is the default Raspberry PI5 64 bit OS and I am entering the password I used during the os install to the NvME. I know it is the correct credentials because it tried no password and get the error that the username or password is incorrect. I was not prompted for credentials just before I installed the display driver.

We went to test and verify, and did not find the issues you encountered.
We recommend that you reinstall the system, then install the driver for the 3.5-inch touchscreen, and restart the system to check the display’s startup status.
Also, the login interface on your display does not seem to be from the Raspberry Pi Bookworm system.

I think I have narrowed down what the issue is. I was going through the install tutorial in the order it is laid out in the tutorial. When I follow that tutorial in the listed order is when I run into the issue with the display driver and getting a login prompt. I went back and reformatted the NVMe and instead of installing the Pironman 5 software next, I installed the display driver software, restarted and then installed the Pironman5 software. I should also mention that previously before installing any of the Pironman 5 or display driver software I did run the all of the updates for the OS PI5 install prior to installing the Pironman 5 software or the display driver. I have an AI camera and AI module which I have not yet tried to install and will attempt those next to see if one of those causes the issue I saw. For now it appears the order of the installs was causing the issue. I should also mentioned I am able to replicate the issue if I follow the tutorial in the order it is laid out and if I install the display driver before install the Pironman5 software, the issue is not present.

I had exactly the same thing happen on my Pironmax 5 Max as well.

We followed the steps you provided and did not encounter your issue. We installed the Bookworm 64 Raspberry Pi OS, connected the Pironman5 Max to a 3.5-inch touchscreen, and started it up.

After installing the system, we first installed the driver:

sudo rm -rf LCD-show
git clone https://github.com/sunfounder/LCD-show.git
chmod -R 755 LCD-show
cd LCD-show/
sudo ./LCD35-show

After successful installation, the system automatically rebooted, and the 3.5-inch touchscreen worked.

Then we proceeded with the Pironman5 software:

cd ~
git clone -b 1.2.15 https://github.com/sunfounder/pironman5.git --depth 1
cd ~/pironman5
sudo python3 install.py

After the software was successfully installed, the system rebooted automatically, but we did not see the login page on the 3.5-inch touchscreen; instead, it went directly to the Bookworm desktop. When we executed the reboot command, the system still booted directly into the Bookworm desktop.

The above is the process we followed to reproduce the issue. If you have any additional information to provide, please do so. If there are discrepancies with your procedure, please explain in detail to help us reproduce and resolve the issue.

You followed the steps I said work, however the instructions you have in the online tutorial have the Pironman 5 software getting installed second and then the Display driver. That is the sequence that causes the issue. You either need to update your online instructions to install the display driver before the pironman software or investigate and resolve the issue with installing the pironman software before the display driver

I had the exact same problem. I had to reinstall the desktop to get it back. The display driver install also deletes raspi-config out of /usr/bin.
I didn’t know you can’t have the HDMI port in use to use the 3.5” inch display. Kind of wish i didn’t buy it.

ahhhh I just fell into the same trap!!! Come on Sunfounder you make great hardware but terrible instructions/ wiki!!! I have just wasted 45 minutes installing the software to find the LCD screen driver deleted my raspi-config then boot me into a different operating system. Now I can’t login!!!

And why can’t you code the software so we can run the LCD screen and external monitor via HDMI at the SAME TIME???

I fell into the same trap - so annoying they’ve not updated their online instructions. How do I reformat my NVMe now as I’m unable to login to the operating system its forced me into? I don’t want to disassemble the case to get the NVMe stick out

We tested again and confirmed that if we first install the touchscreen driver and then the Pironman5 software, the touchscreen can directly access the system desktop without showing a login prompt. We also tested installing the Pironman5 software first and then the touchscreen driver, and the touchscreen still directly accesses the system desktop without a login prompt. We apologize for not being able to reproduce the issue. We recommend providing detailed steps to help us replicate and resolve the problem. If you want to format the SSD, you can switch to booting the system from the SD card, then enter the system from the SD card and reinstall the system on the SSD. There are two methods; please refer to the tutorial here:
Copy OS from Micro SD to NVMe SSD. One method is to copy the system from the SD card to the SSD, and the other is to use Raspberry Pi Imager to install the system.

Did you update all of the PI os software prior to installing the display driver? I was able to replicate the issue three times following your instructions, and was able to avoid the issue by changing the order of the installation steps

Please follow our tutorial sequence to install the Pironman5 software and the LCD driver.
If you have upgraded the system, install our Pironman5 software first, then install the LCD driver, and the touchscreen will be able to access the system desktop normally.
If you have not upgraded the system, either installing the Pironman5 software or the LCD driver first will work properly.
If you upgrade the system and install the LCD driver first, the touchscreen may not be able to access the system desktop.
Our tutorial sequence specifies that you should install the Pironman5 software first; if you have a 3.5-inch touchscreen, then install the LCD driver. If you do not have a 3.5-inch touchscreen, there is no need to install the LCD driver.

I have been following along. Now I have a working 3x5 screen, but I cannot get further than the splash screen in booting. I can SSH without difficulty, but it is supposed to boot to the GUI and it just sticks on the splash.
