Pironman 5, Rapsberry Pi 5 and Raspberry OS

Hello all.

Last week, when I received my Sunfounder 10.1 Touch Screen monitor, the directions were very clear in stating that it was necessary to be sure that the OS was installed on the Pi and that everything was up and running, that the system to which you were going to connect the monitor was ready to receive it prior to the system power being turned on. It sternly warned against powering up the monitor without the OS installed.

With that in mind, my question regards the Pironman 5. The written directions for the Pironman 5 make no mention of any need to install Raspberry OS (or whichever OS) prior to the assembly of the case. I now have the entire case assembled with the Raspberry Pi 5 and a 2 TB Samsung 990 Pro SSD. I have yet to turn on the power and have realized that, unlike my PiDog (which has a battery) the Pironman 5 offers me no way to power the Pi in order to get the OS onto it via the Raspberry Pi Imager. I am worried about powering it on with the everything connected and no OS. I don’t want to damage the Pi, the SSD or anything else. Since I got the PiDog online remotely using Windows Powershell, presumably I can also do that with this one. If so, I can take care of the Sunfounder TS monitor after the rest is set up. If I can’t power the Pi using the case, I guess I’ll have to disassemble the whole thing. If I removed just the SSD, I would still have to be concerned about the NVMe PIP. Thoughts?

I don’t know what I was thinking. I have been forgetting all about the microSD card. I guess I can do like I did for the dog and copy the the latest version from the Pi Imager onto it and then just make sure it is slapped into the Pi5 before booting the Pironman. Presumably, with the thing assembled, I can just pop the microSD right into the front of the case.

I am new to this, but if it is any help or in the future – I loaded the OS straight onto my SSD NVMe (skipped the micro sd) and turned it on. came right up.
cheers,

Thanks Robert. I appreciate the reply.

I would like to be able to do that but I have no other means to interface with the SSD. Also, I am trying to follow Sunfounder’s directions. Unfortunately, I put the whole Pironman together without ever powering any part of it. Now, though, I am concerned that I may need to disassemble it. Though the written directions say only to “configure the software before USING the Pironman”, the online instructions say to first update the Raspberry Pi’s bootloader and install the image before ever building the box. Given that I’ve already I put it together, I hope I can get whichever software, wherever it needs to be without having to take the Pironman apart. I wouldn’t be concerned so much except for that there might have been plastic rivets involved (PiDog?) which cannot be reused.

On the Tutorial page, down in the section"ADVANCED" there are instructions for disassembly to prevent damage.
Yes. I loaded my Pi OS onto a SSD before building. Only just to be ready. Other than the no OLED and no RGb, are you able to boot up? See the homepage, browse etc?

I am new to this so I definitely dont want to mess with instructions from the source. But I dont see why you cant remove your SSD without doing anything other than removing the window. you said you have no way to access the SSD ? If not ina hurry perhaps purchase one of those adapters that plug into the USB port. they run around $20 dollars. Useful for many other things. youi can then install or re-install you r OS to the SSd and put back into the case.
Let me know. Cheers

Thanks, Robert.

I am going to give this a try -
