RaspberryPi 4 will not start when Robot HAT+ is attached

Completed step 11 and was letting the battery charge as directed. Began assembling servos. After some time I noticed the raspberry and the hat had gone dark. There was no signal to the monitor. I cycled power and nothing happened except a red flashing led on the Pi. I removed the Robot HAT and reattached power. The raspberry booted fine. I powered it off and replaced the HAT. It will not boot with the hat attached.

This does sound like it could be a battery issue, but we also cannot rule out the possibility of a faulty Robot HAT. To help us better diagnose the problem, could you please take a photo of your setup as shown in the attached example? This will allow us to see the wiring, connections, and LED status more clearly.

Can do. I did not see an attachment. I will attach one pics

for now. Update. I was able to boot the pi with the hat on and power supplied to the pi. When I connect power to the hat, the pi has no power and both hat and Pi are dark. Since I can now enter commands, perhaps I can provide some command outputs for you.

It seems the Robot HAT may not be receiving power from the battery – this could be due to a faulty battery, a connection issue, or a short circuit on the Robot HAT itself.

Please try the following diagnostic steps:

Remove the Robot HAT from the Raspberry Pi.

Disconnect all cables from the Robot HAT (servos, sensors, etc.).

Connect only the battery to the Robot HAT.

Turn the power switch on.

Check whether any LEDs on the Robot HAT light up.

Connect the Type‑C charging cable to the Robot HAT and see if the battery starts charging (check the charging indicator LEDs).

If you have a multimeter, measure the voltage across the battery terminals to confirm whether the battery still has charge.

The HAT remains dark, both off the battery alone, powered by usb-c alone, and with both attached to the HAT. The battery was measuring between 3 and 4 volts.

Based on the diagnostic steps we discussed, it appears the Robot HAT may not be receiving power from the battery. To resolve this, we will send you a free replacement Robot HAT V5 along with a compatible battery.
