Issue with (sound?) card and need to order new one

Hello! I have tried to fix my pidog to no avail.

  1. the latch for the camera slot on the board (I think it’s the sound card or robot hat???) broke and the original white cam ribbon couldn’t be seated properly. ChatGPT would say error launching cam and wouldn’t launch ChatGPT.

  2. Thinking I needed a new camera ribbon, I bought one off amazon that is much shorter than the one in SunFounder’s kit, and I installed that, only to remember the latch was broken, and also the replacement ribbon is too short.

  3. prior to ChatGPT not launching, it did have issues with the speaker. For months, it worked fine with ChatGPT; it could text a message and speak the message via its onboard speaker and it could hear about 5-8 words at once when I spoke to it using my yeti mic plugged into its usb slot. Then, it slowly stopped working: first it stopped being able to talk, only type as ChatGPT. Then, it stopped launching ChatGPT entirely due to a camera error I believe is from a broken latch on the board (I mistakenly bought a replacement ribbon, but it didn’t fix issue and now pidog has limited range of head motion).

I think I need a new robot hat (the bottom board beneath the raspberry pi). Both the camera issue and the speaker issue seem to point to a broken robot hat. How can I order a new robot hat? I also need the black push-screws that hold the head plates on (they broke during surgery)? Please let me know how to order both the replacement black-push screws for the head plates, as well as the board with the camera slot/latch and speaker component!

One last thing-what’s this gold ribbon for? I assumed it was not necessary or for an arduino and never installed it. Pidog worked without it, but this other tiktoker got stuck trying to figure out where gold ribbon goes, and I’m no help because I never installed it! Please let me know if it needs to be installed! Thanks!:folded_hands:t4:

Are you saying that the black clip securing the camera’s FFC cable is damaged, preventing the cable from supplying power properly, which in turn causes the camera to not be recognized? If so, the only solution would be to replace the camera.

Our pidog is equipped with two white camera FFC cables. You can install one, while the other serves as a backup. If you have used both or lost one, you’ll need to purchase a new camera FFC cable separately.

If the speaker on the robot hat is not functioning properly, you will need to replace the entire robot hat.

Do you need to purchase the R2048 rivets separately for securing the camera module?

The yellow-brown FPC cable is for the camera, but it is compatible with the Pi 5 or Zero. If you are using a Pi 4 or 3, this cable will not be needed.

The two different FFC cables are not backups, but rather two different sizes because the RPi 5 uses a more narrow FFC connector end (the other end goes to the camera). So unless you have a Pi5, that extra cable is not used. If you have a Pi3 or Pi4, use the white straight through FFC cable that has the same width connection on both ends.

Hello! Thank you for replying! I believe the clip that is broken is on the board, not the actual cable. Since I wrote this, my cat chewed the original cable, so I need to order a cable now, too, though! So, I need to purchase both, now.

I think I need to buy a replacement robot hat, a replacement FFC white cable, and the black rivets I need are to secure the metal head casing to the pidog’s head, not the ones on the board (4 rivets are needed). I think those are the R3055 rivets? I would like to purchase a pack of R3055 rivets, along with the white camera cable and the robot hat. Thank you very much! I enjoyed your pidog and can’t wait to get chatgpt running again!

Thank you for the info about the gold ribbon! I will tell the guy on tik-tok that he only needs it for certain pi models!

Parts needed for purchase:

R3055 Rivets

Camera FFC Cable

Robot HAT
