PiDog v1 vs Pi Dog v2

Hello my fellow PiDog friends!

I recently made a purchase and I’m a bit confused here,I figured I’d ask the community.

The purchase made was this PiDog PiDog

Then I see this one on Sunfounder

PiDog Pi5

My question is are they now compatible with the raspberry pie 5?

The title states " SunFounder PiDog AI Robot Dog Kit for Raspberry Pi 5/4/3B+/3B/Zero 2W, ChatGPT-4o Enabled with Voice Command & Video Recognition"

But on the bottom it says :

I would like to run a raspberry pie 5 for the most modern updates and capabilities.
Any input helps.

Thank you for reaching out to us with your question!

The PiDog kit you purchased is the previous version, which is not compatible with Raspberry Pi 5. We’ve just released the new version (labeled “PiDog Pi5”) in the last few days.

For your current kit (the older version), you can find the user manual and tutorials here:

That means there is now a Pi5 robot hat available?
Can we order separately as well?

Oh no, if this is the case I will be retuning the original PiDog 4 and getting the PiDog 5

To avoid confusion, can you please drop a link of where I can order the new and updated Pidog 5?

Or let me know how I can order it.

Thanks in advance!

Yes, the PiDog product compatible with Raspberry Pi 5 is now available on our official website: SunFounder PiDog AI Robot Dog Kit for Raspberry Pi 5/4/3B+/3B/Zero 2W, ChatGPT-4o Enabled with Voice Command & Video Recognition | SunFounder Currently, we do not sell a Robot HAT compatible with Pi 5, but it may be available in the future. The new PiDog looks mechanically identical to the old. Is it possible to upgrade the old version to the new with a new robot hat and pi5?

In theory, this should work. The metal plate structure of the new version Pidog is identical to that of the old version.

However, please note that the new version Pidog has upgraded servo motors compared to the previous version.

Just like most of you i wanted to use the pi5 but was forced to use the pi4b. Having spent a lot of time developing software for the pi5 and pi4b, using a.i. functions, i can assure you that the pidog works fine with either except for battery life. It isn’t great with the 4 and rather pointless for the 5 which drains the useable charge quickly. There is no noticeable difference in dogspeed between pi’s, even with the bit of a.i. running. The older version servos let the product down. If i was to buy now, i would choose the pi5 version for the better servos and use the pi4 for the better run time.
