Has anyone used the Crucial P510 1TB PCIe Gen5 NVMe M.2 SSD with the Pironman 5 - Max and can confirm it’s compatible before I order. Amazon UK have a good Black Friday Deal!
Alternatively Lexar EQ790 1TB SSD with Heatsink?

Both the Crucial P510 1TB and the Lexar EQ790 1TB with heatsink are physically and interface-compatible with the Pironman 5 - Max at a basic level. However, due to the hardware limitations of the Pironman 5 - Max, the former’s high performance cannot be fully utilized. From the perspectives of compatibility and cost-effectiveness, the Lexar EQ790 1TB with a heatsink is a safer and more reasonable choice.
While these two SSDs offer strong theoretical performance, the dual M.2 slots on the Pironman 5 - Max are connected via an on-board switch and only support PCIe Gen2 x1 lanes. This lane specification severely limits the data transfer speed of the SSD. Even if you use a high-end PCIe Gen5 model, its actual speed will be capped at the PCIe Gen2 x1 level, preventing its high-performance advantages from being realized. It’s essentially equivalent to paying a premium for high-performance hardware but only being able to run it in a low-performance mode.
Thank you and understood. Didn’t want to buy an incompatible outdated drive as it may get repurposed later….
hey markz crucial p3 plus works with pironman 5. as i have 2 working with me.
Thank you…Issue in the UK is a shortage of all ‘quality’ drives at a sensible price, in the end I went for Lexar NM790 as it can be repurposed easily after the Pi project.
