Servos for PiDog

So I may own the V1 PiDog. I built it back in (i think 2023) and let it kinda sit for awhile. Recently I decided to use it as a sandbox for a patent I am working on and the servos are just sooo bad. 4 of them are shaking (power loss I am assuming) and one just literally melted and almost lit on fire while doing the “push up” action. Not sure if the v2 PiDog solved this, but I’ll never find out because I probably wont use you guys anymore. Sucks, you guys had the right idea about kits.

If i leave my RC helicopter servos untouched for some time they also start to shake, or hunt. The wiper contact deteriorates over time. A squirt of contact cleaner usually fixes it.

Thanks! I’ve decided to overhaul them with 25kg*CM servos. That should be enough to maintain the weights, and I think I’ll upgrade the battery pack to accommodate 7.4v. If my research is correct I shouldn’t have to do much work to the frame.

The frame should be fine.

As you bought your pidog in 2023 then your pidog, from memory, will have a v4 robot hat. Sunfounder did a lot of work to create pidog v2, part of which was upgrading to a v5 hat and better servos. I do not know if the servo current available from the v4 hat is sufficient for your larger servos, worth checking the max servo output current before spending any $$$

Our current V4 and V5 versions cannot drive such large servos. You may need to consider using an external power supply for the servo.

Yeah, I was really hoping to not have to make this into a huge project as it stalls my ability to actually produce what I am trying to build. Recommendations?

Please contact service@sunfounder.com to provide your detailed address and original orders to get servo.
