No signal/power from any USB ports after boot

New build of Pironman 5 Max. Added SSD option.

After power up, I the video works showing the Raspberry Pi Screen picture but none of the USB ports work. So, no mouse, no keyboard. I checked the Pi 5 board prior to assembly and the USBs were fine. I see the green power lights on both the supply and the SSD board, but no fans.

I ‘ve started to disassemble the case to see if something restores the USBs, before removing the cooler, which doesn’t look like it could be re-attached, I thought I’d ask the forum if there might be any suggestions on how to proceed.

Thanks,

Ken F

Here are the troubleshooting steps for the issues you mentioned:

  1. RGB Fans Not Working?

First, check hardware: Please confirm that the J2 jumper cap is connected on the IO expansion board (see diagram).

Then, install software: The RGB fans require our control software to function. After ensuring the jumper is connected, please install the Pironman5 software:
cd ~
git clone -b max GitHub - sunfounder/pironman5: Code for Raspberry Pi 5 case (Pironman5) --depth 1
cd ~/pironman5
sudo python3 install.py

  1. All USB Ports on Pi 5 Not Working?
As the Pironman 5-MAX is a compact case, proper connection and alignment are crucial. Please check the following:

Re-seat all connections: Ensure all cables and modules are firmly and correctly seated.

Check specific connections:

USB-HDMI adapter to Pi 5.

IO expansion board to Pi 5 GPIO pins.

NVMe PiP board to Pi 5 FPC cable (ensure it’s flat, not angled).

Verify power supply: We recommend using the official Raspberry Pi 27W power adapter or a reliable third-party 5V/5A (25W) power supply.

Final test: If USB ports still fail, remove the Pi 5 from the case, power it separately, and test the USB ports to isolate the issue.

  1. Heatsink Spring Rivets
We can send you replacement spring rivets. However, please first confirm if the Pi 5 USB ports start working normally after the checks above.

Let us know the results of these steps so we can assist you further.

Thank you for the information you provided. I got down to the bare board and all worked … then it didn’t. Now unable to power up the board.

Not your problem. But thanks very much for your help.

Ken

Your current IO expansion board is not receiving power or functioning properly? It may have experienced a short circuit. We recommend providing a video of the issue for our review so we can help analyze and resolve the problem for you.

I apologize. The board itself is no longer receiving power, so I guess that’s where the problem is. Thanks for your help.
