Picar-X Camera Dark/Blue Feed

Background context: just received my Picar-X kit yesterday, got it assembled and everything seems to be working aside from the camera so far. I am using it with the Raspberry Pi 5 8GB, and have verified the wiring is properly set and seated in the connector. When I am trying to view the camera feed it looks like this:

i have tried tweaking the brightness/gain and exposure settings using example 7 but it looks like Vilib doesn’t have any functions to support this. When I run rpicam-still in the terminal I get a lot better image (still looks a little bit too blue though). Has anyone dealt with this before?

*edit: I am a new user so I can only embed one picture, I will try to comment this second picture below *

Both images were taken at the same angle/lighting and view. Been troubleshooting for hours now and couldn’t figure anything out further so I thought I’d make a post here.

Here is the second photo:

I got to working with the Picar-X some more this time using example 2 and starting my own stream using picamera2. The feed looks meh, but I have noticed today after driving it around some that it seems to have the colors blue and red switched. Blue things will appear bright red and vice versa. Brown will appear as a light blue. Maybe that why my feed looks so blue-ish outside of looking at red things. It seems like this may be a camera issue based from what experimenting I have been doing, or possibly a cable issue?

  1. The lens of the camera module has a protective film when you use it for the first time. Do you tear off the protective film before using it?
  2. Please check whether the camera cable is in good contact.
  3. If you have other models of Raspberry Pi boards, you can replace them and see if the same situation occurs.

If the same situation still occurs after the above verification, there may be a problem with the camera module. We will reissue you a new camera module.

  1. Yes, I made sure I removed the protective film.
  2. I removed and plugged it back in on both the raspberry pi side and camera side twice now and it didn’t change anything.
  3. I don’t have another Rasberry Pi i can test it with unfortunately.

We will send you a camera module and FPC cable. Please contact service@sunfounder.com to provide your detailed address.
