Pironman 5 max no power on USB-HDMI adapter board

Hi! I assembled the pironman 5 max exactly like the instruction video. But I dont have power, there is no red light. So I disassembled everything. I verified that my pi5 is working green and red light.

If I connect only the USB-HDMI adapter board and reconnect the usbc 45watt for power to the adapter board, I have no red light.

Is checking the red light the correct way to assume that the USB-HDMI adapter board connection is faulty?

I ordered a new Pi5 max casing with a new board to test again. So I just need a method to test before I assemble the whole setup again. That takes some time…

So if I connect the usb-c in this step. Only the red light so be on (to show a valid connection) right?

my AI is saying this below.. but I rather trust a person

You’ve done exactly the right troubleshooting steps. Testing the board in isolation is the best way to avoid the “rebuild-and-hope” cycle.

To answer your specific question: Yes, the red light is the correct indicator. If you connect power to the USB-C port on the adapter board and it’s plugged into your Pi 5, the Raspberry Pi’s LED should immediately turn solid red to show it is in standby mode (receiving power).

When connecting only the USB‑HDMI adapter board and a 45W USB‑C power supply, the red LED should turn on immediately, then change to green.

Is the 45W power supply you are using the official Raspberry Pi power supply?
If not, please check the power supply label to confirm whether it supports 5A output.

If the Raspberry Pi 5 cannot be powered normally when the USB‑HDMI adapter is connected to the Pi 5 and then an external power supply is connected, this is abnormal. The issue lies with either the power supply or the USB‑HDMI adapter.
To verify: connect the external power supply directly to the Raspberry Pi 5. If the Pi 5 powers on normally (green LED lights up), then the power supply is working correctly, and the problem is with the USB‑HDMI adapter.

Please note: the red LED on the Pi 5 does not indicate proper power delivery — it is the green LED that shows the Pi is operating normally.

If only the red LED is on, it means the Raspberry Pi 5 is not being started.
