Hello,
the motherboard of my Pironman 2.0 seens to be damaged. The SSD controller will be not recognize by the operating system. if I input “lsusb” is there no output of the controller. I tried diverent kinds of USB-A to USB-c cables. Nothing helps. Are there are any other ideas, to solve this problem, or is it possible to get a new Pironman 2.0 motherboard, please?
Did you connect power supply into rpi4 or into pironman v2 board?
I connect it into the pironman board.
Ok, did it work before or a new case recently assembled, first boot with SSD? Maybe the SSD isn’t compatible with pironman v2, take a look to specifications of m.2 SSD SATA
https://docs.sunfounder.com/projects/pironman-v2/en/latest/ssd.html#ssd
Tell me, what is your SSD model?
I use a Intenso Internal M.2 SSD SATA III Top, 128 GB.
This SSD worked perfect with the Pironman, for six month. And I test it with my second Pironman. There are working the SSD without problems.
Ok, does it work again with other Pi? Do you have other good m.2 SSD to test with pironman v2 board? Do you have a good power supply? If you connect a PC or cellphone directly to SSD hat, and see if it’s recognized.
Please follow the steps below to troubleshoot the issue and let us know the results. It would be helpful if you could provide photos or additional information to assist us in pinpointing the problem:
a. Replace the USB bridge board with a Type-C data cable and check if the SSD is recognized. — You verified that it cannot be recognized.
b. Use the Type-C data cable instead of the USB bridge board and try different USB ports on the Raspberry Pi to see if the SSD is recognized.
c. Connect the Pironman motherboard to a computer USB port using the Type-C data cable and check if the PC can recognize the SSD.
The Windows PC recognize the USB2Sata Controller and the SSD without problems and the connection seems to be stable.
Ok and now, reinstall SSD with pironman hat, connect power to usb-c and connect hat to windows PC by USB cable. Does it work?
Or if you let SSD into USB2sata and plug it directly to rpi4 board, does it work?
Exactly.
Please connect the SSD to the Pironman motherboard, then use a Type-C data cable to connect the SSD’s Type-C port on the Pironman motherboard to a USB port on your computer. Check if the computer can recognize the SSD.
If it works, then connect the Pironman motherboard with the SSD to a USB port on the Raspberry Pi using the Type-C data cable. See if the SSD is recognized there as well, and try different USB ports on the Raspberry Pi.
If the SSD is recognized in both cases but not when using the USB bridge we provided, it indicates there may be an issue with the USB bridge. In that case, we can send you a replacement USB bridge.
The SSD works now without problems with the Raspi, too, Thank you very much. I will use the USB-c cable now. Thank you for your offer, but I think that I don’t need a new USB bridge.
Have fun with your project.
